Abstract
This book has brought together empirical studies from a variety of viewpoints, to probe teachers’ working life of today from a European perspective. The different chapters cut across a range of important topics in the field of work organisation and working life in schools, common to many European countries. It is a journey from the daily lives of teachers when it comes to the worst with stress, isolation and experiences of intensification, all the way through professional development, in-service training, teamwork, job satisfaction and work-related well-being, to school culture and improvement programmes. In this chapter we summarise our experiences from our journey through the different studies on teachers’ professional development and well-being. We will also attempt to discuss these results that complement each other, as well as those which apparently provide rather contradictory results.
