Abstract

This symposium explores global challenges of innovation and governance in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. As a scholarly and global community, we need to understand how innovation approaches shape, and are shaped by, rapid advances in AI as well as adjacent technologies such as generative AI, algorithmic systems, data infrastructure, and platform-based ecosystems. Differences across regions in innovation speed, talent and capital availability, and institutional capacity create space for both competition and collaboration. Scholars from regions including the EU, US, China, and South America, alongside other parts of the world, will share diverse perspectives on how organizations and societies can enable responsible experimentation and scale innovation amid evolving governance landscapes. The session brings together researchers whose work bridges academic theory and practical insight. Its goal is to advance theoretical understanding and provide actionable ideas and research opportunities for academics and practitioners navigating fast-moving AI and emerging-technology ecosystems.
