Abstract
Based on the premise that we are all spiritual beings having a human experience (Palmer, 1998), this panel symposium explores spirituality as integral to both pedagogical and organizational practice. While cautious implementation remains essential, given the diverse interpretations and varying receptiveness (Dirkx, 2001), the increasing acceptance of secular mindfulness practices in academia and corporate settings has created opportunities for contemplative approaches (Gelles, 2015). Panelists examine how spiritual practices, including meditation, reflective dialogue, and values-based leadership, enhance teaching effectiveness and organizational wellbeing (Marques, Dhiman & King, 2007; Fry, 2003). Drawing on research demonstrating that spirituality fosters ethical decision-making, meaningful work, and authentic relationships (Giacalone & Jurkiewicz, 2003), this symposium offers frameworks for integrating spiritual dimensions into educational and workplace contexts while respecting diversity and maintaining professional boundaries.
