Abstract

In May 1946, one year after World War II formally ended in Europe, the Italian publishing company Mondadori launched a book series called I libri della Ricostruzione. As its title suggests, ‘The Books of Reconstruction’ aimed to help in the post-war restoration of Italy – an impressive ambition, considering that much of the country was still in ruins.
