Abstract
Most school systems have a single cutoff date for school eligibility. Children in the same class can therefore differ in age by nearly a year. This paper analyzes whether older pupils attend a more advanced secondary school track after grade 4. The main contribution is to examine how such entry age effects vary depending on parental education. Whereas children of less educated parents are more likely to continue on a more advanced secondary track if they are relatively older, no such effects are found for children of more educated parents.
