My main research interests have been modern economic history, with emphasis on various aspects of the service sector in Sweden. Some particular fields of interests have been banking and business history, transport and communication history, retail and distribution, and industrial relations. Cold war studies, economic defense, and working life criminality are recent research interests. Also the history of regulations, network theory, and institutional theory with special emphasis on path dependence has been of special interest for me. I am also editor (together with professor Lars Magnusson) of the international referee journal Economic and Industrial Democracy, published by Sage, London. I have previously been Head of Department of Labour and citizenship, National Institute for Working Life, Sweden. Between 2007 and 2010, I was researcher/associate professor at the Department of Economic History, Uppsala University. On leave from December 2008 to December 2010. I was working at The Swedish Work Environment Agency and Adjunct Professor at Department of Economic History, Umeå University. From January 2011 professor of economic history, Department of Economic History, Uppsala University. Senior Professor in Uppsala from 2025. Adjunct Professor, SSE, EHFF from 2026.
