My work explores how ideas of freedom and insecurity shape the way we approach work today. In my dissertation, I study how young professionals live and navigate this tension. I show how they pursue flexibility and opportunity, often at the cost of stability and direction, to avoid making commitments that might limit their future. This approach appears liberating, but demands a focus on performance over substance, employability over destination, and optimization over engagement.
Echoing these themes, I have also studied how schools compete to attract students and am now involved in a research project exploring hybrid work and its effects on social relations. Here, I aim to critically examine the workplace as a site of self-formation, expanding on the insights from my dissertation to advance discussions about freedom and meaning in the future of work.
