Expertise
Kathrin is an Assistant Professor at the House of Innovation (HoI) at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). Trained as an economist, she holds a Ph.D. in Innovation and Technology Management. Prior to joining SSE, she was a postdoctoral researcher at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business. She has been a visiting scholar at Columbia Business School and the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard, and has been affiliated with SCANCOR at Stanford University since 2022.
Beyond academia, Kathrin gained experience in industry and policy research at BMW Forschung- und Innovationszentrum (FIZ) in Munich and the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) in Vienna. Her research lies at the intersection of innovation, technology, and strategy, with a particular focus on how organizations acquire, evaluate, and integrate external knowledge to foster innovation. Her work delves into innovation and technology management and the subsequent organisational learning, specifically within the context of search and problem solving as well as collective intelligence (crowds, contests, and communities) by using large scale empirical studies and experiments in behavioural economics and decision making.
